Differences between New Zealand and the United States

  • It’s summer in January
  • They drive on the left side of the road
  • The steering wheel is on the opposite side
  • They spell a lot of words differently for example tire is spelled tyre
  • Pineapple and ham is their most popular pizza
  • Most dogs are off leash
  • You can go barefoot in public
  • Garbage (rubbish) cans are hard to find
  • Most places don’t have yellow mustard
  • They use the metric system

Here are some of the words that are different:

Elevator = Lift

French fries = Chips

Potato chips = Crisps

Cookies = Biscuits

Jelly = Marmalade

Shopping Cart = Trundle

Forest = The Bush

Hiking = Tramping

Waiting Line = Queue

Garbage = Rubbish

Parking lot = Car Park

Candy = Lollies

Friend = Mate
